Blizzard Umbrella #13 : Teamwork Makes Dreamwork! Community talk
This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the thirteenth recording. The guys have been working and discussing off air about progressing the show. They both feel it’s time to bring in a third voice to the show. Wanted: Third co-host who is outgoing and able to work with recording times! The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what the guys have been up to.
What We’re Up to:
This past week Dusty has been able to get a good amount of game time in. In WoW, Dusty is starting to feel like 7.2 and the Broken Shores is starting to grow on him. Part of what makes this enjoyable for him is the fact that he really enjoys the world quests system. Dusty attributes this to an addon called word quest group finder. Ryan gives his stamp of approval of the addon. Dusty touches on his desire for a change of pace and scenery in the next expansion. No more fel green he says! Ryan wants Old Gods stuff! Dusty wraps up the WoW talk with his progress getting him close to having flying unlocked. Dusty expresses his frustration with the Overwatch competitive play system as he tries to move up in the rankings. Dusty has also been playing lots of Hearthstone still and loving it. Heroes 2.0 can’t come soon enough for Dusty.
For Ryan, this past week has been filled with lots of school as the semester winds down but he did manage to get his shaman leveled to 110. Not much has happened in the raiding scene for Ryan and his guild but they are looking to get back on the progression wagon very soon. Ryan tells Dusty about how he was sitting on the item to get the fox mount for months when some of his guild members had been farming it to no avail. Ryan and Dusty talk about how nice leveling is with flying unlocked, especially in zones like Highmountain and Stormheim. The guys also talk about how quick and easy leveling is now compared to Legion’s launch.
Dusty and Ryan open up this week’s chat with the new Anduin cinematic. Dusty discusses how awesome the cinematic is and how much he thinks it really brings Anduin into adulthood and a real figure head as King. Ryan asks Dusty what Anduin’s true purpose of being there is.
Part of what makes all of Blizzard’s games so awesome is the community aspect they bring to the table. As the guys have grown up with these games the idea of community has taken on respective meanings for both Dusty and Ryan. Ryan talks about all the life-long friends he has made through these games and talks about how he has had so many cool adventures and trips meeting these people. Part of what makes this possible for Ryan is the fact that a person can spend so much time with the people they play with. More so than people outside of games at times. For Dusty these games have been a bit more of a solo play and a pug situation until recently. Dusty feels that he has been very lucky with encouragement from family and friends to enjoy his gaming hobby and is really starting to realize how awesome the gaming community is even outside of game. Having people to share in this hobby and these passions Is something that isn’t quite quantifiable. While some of these games can have a toxic nature inside of the community, most of the community for Dusty is and has been very good. Ryan feels like the community inside of these games is important even beyond face value. Having people to work towards common goals, overcome hurdles, and share in the excitement of feeling the reward of hard work is irreplaceable. Pugging certainly makes the game playable but having friends and people you play with on a regular basis makes these games so much more enjoyable. Ryan talks about how he resisted Blizzcon for so long because of the fear that it would be “too nerdy”. Much to his dismay he couldn’t have been more wrong. Blizzcon for Ryan was eye opening to say the least. Being able to be around thousands of people who all have the same love and passion is something that can’t be described. The Blizzard community is one of the best communities around. The guys wrap up the community talk with a brief discussion how the community can change depending on which Blizzard game you are playing. Dusty feels like Blizzard does a fantastic job encouraging and nurturing “community”.
Heroes 2.0 is here! As Heroes 2.0 makes its reveal, players can look to see both new currency and loot boxes available to them as they launch 2.0 for the first time. A new map, 73 new skins, a free mega hero bundle, 2 new heroes one of which is Genji, new load outs, emojis, a new progression system, new voice overs, an updated UI, a new Nexus challenge event, and much more are coming to the Nexus!
WoW: Week 5 is here and still no Tomb drop date. A few hotfixes and a few minor changes.
Overwatch: The Overwatch teams tells us that we should see 3 new maps this year. It is estimated that a person would need to open 5000 loot boxes and spend over 1700 dollars or 1500 hours of playing to get all the event items. This math means that it would be pretty much impossible to get all the Uprising event items during the event. What are your thoughts? The guys give theirs.
Hearthstone: The global games are going on and Dusty is liking watching the teams.
Lately Ryan and a few other guys have been working on producing another podcast show that is solely focused on the WoW raiding scene. To go with the show Ryan and the guys have been putting together a discord community to compliment the class discords with more raiding centric resources. Recruitment, strats, and role specifc tips to give a few examples. This is where the help wanted comes in. The discord needs people to act as authoritative figures to help run and moderate this community. Being able to be knowledgeable of the current raiding scene from LFR on up to Mythic as well as being able to point people in the right direction of helpful resources are necessary qualities. If you are a raider and would both enjoy and be able to put focus and effort into helping run this community reach out to Ryan via the contact information below.
