Blizzard Umbrella #27 : The Netherlight Crucible, Garrosh Hellscream, Knights of the Frozen Throne, and Lucioball!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty seventh recording.  The guys have both been hard at work both on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are talking about some of the exciting news coming out of Blizzard.  WoW catchup mechanics, Garrosh Hellscream, Lucioball, and the new Hearthstone expansion are all on this weeks lineup.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What we’ve been up to:

This past week Ryan has been back into the gaming realm after having been on vacation and has also been working a lot.  In game Ryan has been playing some Diablo on his freshly 70 Necromancer. His guild downed H Avatar and is working on KJ.  Other than that Ryan has been leveling his hunter and got his priest class mount.

Dusty this past week pick up the Twilight and Luminous Starseeker.  In WoW Dusty has been spending a ton of time on his fresh character he is trying to get Loremaster on.  Dusty has been doing all of this as he reads the Chronicle books.  On top of WoW Dusty has also been playing a bunch of Overwatch.  In Diablo Dusty has gotten up into the 400 paragon range.  Outside of Blizzard games Dusty has been playing some PUBG with Marty from the Blue Recluse and Ryan.

World of Warcraft:

Right now, Blizzard in 7.3 has a few catch up mechanics slotted that will be super cool additions.  The first mechanic is a change to artifact knowledge.  Starting Day 1 with 7.3 every single player no matter how long they have been at level 110, will have the exact same artifact knowledge and that knowledge will go up one level each week.  That means 10 weeks into 7.3 if someone hits level 110 for the first time they will automatically be at AK level 50.

Also coming to the game is the Netherlight Crucible.  The Netherlight Crucible will unlock relic talents when you hit 6 different artifact points.  Each point will randomly assign a shadow trait and a holy trait to a relic slot.  No trait can be assigned twice.  Every time you put a new relic into your weapon for each tier of traits you have unlocked you will randomly be assigned new traits.

Heroes of the Storm:

Garrosh releases this week and Michael weighs in on last weeks discussion.  Michael talks about how he thinks that so many new characters won’t affect league play because the players will adapt.  Michael also talks about the fact that new characters gives player more options to find a character for a certain role that they really enjoy.  For instance Varian might not be a fun Warrior for a player but Garrosh might.

Hearthstone:

The new Hearthstone expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, is here.  As this expansion gets closer Dusty feels like this expansion has been receiving less hype than Un’Goro.  Dusty worries that the new cards won’t be as exciting and fun.  With the new expansion players will be getting Thrall Death Seer for Shamans and Arc Bishop Benedictus for Priests.

Overwatch:

Lucioball is back and with a competitive mode.  Both of the guys are super pumped to have this.  Along with Lucioball is the Summer Games event and a bunch of new skins.  The old skins will be reduced to 1000 in price.

Diablo:

The new season is well under way and recently there was a nerf to goblin appearance rates in a certain area because players were abusing this to level.  With this nerf some of the dev team received death threats from players.  NOT COOL.

Starcraft:

Starcraft Remastered will be making its appearance on the 14th!

Trivia for Ryan:

Dusty asks Ryan what boss is in both WoW and Diablo and has the same name.  Ryan answers Cow King and is right but Dusty says he is wrong and that he should have answered The Butcher in Highmaul.

Blizzard Umbrella #26: Russel Brower Leaves Blizzard, Doomfist is live, Garosh is Announced as the Next HotS Heroe, and more!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty-sixth recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp. Dusty and Ryan both are back from vacation and ready to roll.  This week the guys talks about the world boss rotation in WoW, Russel Brower leaving the company, Doomfist, Garosh, and much more. The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and the guys.

What We’ve Been Up To:

Ryan this past week has been gone on vacation up in the Rocky Mountains.  He has had one day since he has been back and spent every minute of it catching up on a few of his toons in WoW.  One of the quests he has been working on is his priest to get the class mount.

Dusty on the other hand was able to return a bit earlier from his vacation and get some game time in.  With the time he did have Dusty has been playing some Necro in the new Diablo season, a little bit of Hearthstone as he waits for the new expansion release date, and started a level 1 Tauren warrior in which he will be attempting to slowly level through all of the zones and all of the quests all the way up to max level.

World of Warcraft

Recently via some ptr data it has been announced that in 7.3 the world boss rotation will be a fixed schedule.  Right the now the bosses are random from week to week but in moving forward Blizzard is doing away with this random schedule and moving towards a fixed rotation. Ryan feels like this is a good change and is like a lot of other things Blizzard has done of late, a day late and a dollar short but we will take it.

Dusty and Ryan also take some time to discuss the very unfortunate news that Russel Brower has left Blizzard.  Speculation is that he was let go or his position with the company has been let go as they see it that the work necessary can be done without his position.  As the guys talk about this sad news, Ryan and Dusty both feel that if indeed Blizzard did remove his position and it was not a mutual decision for him to leave it is very bad on Blizzard and goes against what the company has always presented itself to be in the eyes of the community.  Some of the music that players have heard over the last 12 years has been at the direction of Russel and has been very memorable.  It is with a heavy heart the community sees his him go and wishes him the very best of luck.  Ryan and Dusty both would like to believe that this decision was made mutually by both parties involved but based on the information it sadly does not sound to be the case.  In light of this news the guys both take a second to talk about some of the music they have experienced over the years.

Hearthstone:

With the recent announcement of the new expansion Dusty takes some time to talk about two of the new cards coming in the upcoming expansion.  The first card Dusty mentions is the Bearshark which is a 3 cost minion and a Hunter card.  Dusty doesn’t really like the card but absolutely loves the art work on the card.  The second card Dusty brings up is the Sindragossa card.  The card is 8 cost, 8 attack 8 health, has great art work, and summons 2 0/1 minions that when killed they add a legendary minion to your hand.

Dusty also takes some time to talk about a card reveal stream and speculates we could very well see this expansion next week.  Bolvar Fireblood is also coming to Hearthstone and the guys are absolutely loving the artwork.

Dusty also informs listeners that if you defeat the Lich King on all 9 classes you get a young Arthas paladin skin.

Heroes of the Storm:

Right off the back of the release of Stukov the HotS community already has the announcement of the next hero, Garosh Hellscream.  Garosh will be a warrior.

Because of this announcement Dusty and Ryan take some time to discuss the issue of the speed of hero releases.  Ryan and Dusty both feel like that the speed of releases is too fast.  Ryan especially feels this way because the amount of characters they are looking to release in the next few years can devalue the game, over inflate the character choices, and make it hard for competitive players to really sink their teeth into specific characters.  The guys also discuss what some possible solutions could be to remedy this situation of having an overabundance of heroes to pick from.

Overwatch:

Doomfist is officially live and both Dusty and Ryan have had opportunities to play him. While Ryan does feel like that too many characters are a bad thing in a moba he does ironically like the diversity of heroes that players pick depending on the map.  It creates for a dynamic game and some fun variance from one match to the next.  Ryan also feels like Doomfist will have his niche in league play and he cannot wait to see how the pro players use him.

The guys also take some time to discuss the announcement of the first cities to get teams in the Overwatch league.  Dusty feels like the number of cities announced is low and should be more.

Curveball:

Dusty throws Ryan a curveball by asking him if he can rapid fire name 4 of the original old gods.  Ryan only gets one by name, Cthun.

Blizzard Umbrella #25: Overwatch League, Ice Cream Citadel, Chronicles Volume 3, and Follower Catch Up!!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty fifth recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp.  Dusty is off on a family vacation and Cole from The Raider’s Confessional joins Ryan as a special guest for this week’s episode.  Cole and Ryan spend some time talking about Doomfist, the Overwatch League, the Necromancer, Ice-Cream Citadel, Stukov, Method killing mythic KJ, Chronicles Volume 3, and follower ilvl catch up in 7.3.   The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and the guys.

What We’ve Been Up To:

Cole this past week has been fighting a cold and been fighting some damaged tech from a rogue lightning strike.  It was a wonder he was even able to get on to do this weeks show.  Outside of battling some real life Cole has been able to play some Necromancer in anticipation for the upcoming season in D3.  In WoW he has been gearing up his fire mage alt.

Ryan has been spending a lot of his time when not working on either podcast, working and getting ready for his trip out to Colorado to see the gf.  In WoW Ryan has been working on his Vengeance Demon Hunter.  Ryan also managed to get some more time in with Doomfist as he anticipates Doomfist hitting live servers.

Diablo 3:

The double xp weekend ended last weekend and we hope that those of you that really enjoy some D3 action were all able to get in there and get some extra xp. Cole and Ryan spend some time talking about what aspect of D3 draws each of them to play the game. Both guys seem to enjoy killing a lot of mobs more than the gear grind.

Overwatch League and Doomfist:

Last week Ryan and Dusty talked about how the Overwatch League announcement felt a bit premature considering how little the community has heard or seen since the initial announcement.  This week however we finally here some news with the announcement of the first 7 cities to have Overwatch teams.  The other big announcement with this news is that 50% of all revenue out of the league will go into a shared revenue pool that all teams share.  This is very similar to some of systems we currently see in other professional sports. Cole brings up the question,  is Overwatch truly the game to bring e-sports to the next level?  The guys also spend some time talking about how the league will handle new characters that are introduced to the game.

To round out the Overwatch talk, the guys talk quickly about their excitement for Doomfist on live servers and what they currently like with the hero with what they currently know or have experienced.

Ice Cream Citadel:

Lately the Hearthstone team has been doing a fantastic job with the live action shorts they have been putting out.  The two most recent ones are centered around the Lich King to go along with the new expansion announcement.  Cole and Ryan spend some time talking about the newest short, The Ice Cream Citadel.

Stukov:

Alexei Stukov is officially on live servers and is seeing a lot of game play from the community.  He is very much a unique support character and a very enticing hero.

Mythic KJ dead, Chronicle Vol. 3, and Follower Catch Up in 7.3:

The EU boys over at Method have finally brought about Mythic KJ’s world first demise.  Congrats to them.  Nice to see their hard work pay off and put them back on top.

Chronicles Volume 3 pre-order is now available and Cole couldn’t be more excited.  Ryan asks Cole to briefly talk about what people can find in each of these books which then causes Ryan to want to purchase the first two volumes.

Currently with what the PTR has on it, there is a follower catch up system coming to the game in 7.3.  There will be a quest chain with 5 quests that players will do via their mission boards that will give players follower items and collectively level 6 follower to item level 925.  This will be doable in its current state by all players no matter how high their followers item levels are.

Blizzard Umbrella #24 : New Hearthstone Expansion, Black Temple Time Walking, Doomfist, and Stukov!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty fourth recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp.  This week the guys talk the new Hearthstone expansion, Black Temple time walking, Doomfist, and Stukov.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

This past week Ryan has been focusing on his guild’s progression and having some fun with Dusty and the Sunday Funday raid.  Ryan also did a +15 which was a lot of fun to say the least and has been leveling up a DH tank alt.  Other than WoW and podcasts Ryan got a chance to try some Doomfist action over on the Overwatch PTR.

Dusty as well has been spending some time leveling up an alt, a monk.  Dusty got to come along with Ryan’s guild for the Sunday Funday raid and got his KJ kill.  Dusty got his first legendary on his Demon Hunter and has been working on the mage class mount.  Other than WoW Dusty has been playing an aggro Druid list in Hearthstone.

Hearthstone:

Knights of the Frozen Throne, the next Hearthstone expansion has been announced.  Dusty is super excited for this expansion and believes it will drop the 3rd or 10th of August.  With the new expansion, will come a new legendary hero card, that will turn your hero into a Death Knight.  Dusty has already purchased the pre-order.  Dusty goes on to explain that we will get a bunch of new cards and the hunter hero card turns your hunter into Death Stalker Rexxar.  Dusty also goes on to explain what abilities and costs are associated with this card.  This type of hero card will be available for every class.  Lifesteal will also be making its appearance in the new cards available.  July 24th as Dusty tells us, will be the next reveal of more things to come with this new expansion.

Also in Hearthstone news, is a new event, a frost event.  This event like the current one will also give lots of free stuff and is a great opportunity for players to get into the game.

World of Warcraft:

The long wait for Ryan and many other raiders who go back to the days of Burning Crusade, is finally over.  Black Temple time walking is here.  Ryan and his guild are super ecstatic to get into Black Temple time walking.  The raid will drop 900 ilvl gear and will scale everyone down to level 70.  Ryan also talks with Dusty about how the raid will be somewhere between normal and lfr tuning wise.  The guys in closing for this topic discuss briefly the nostalgic appeal of this event.

Also in WoW news is the Mythic World Race and a Korean guild joining Method and Exorsus on Mythic KJ.  Ryan and Dusty make their predictions that the mythic race will see its end inside of this week.

Dusty this week found a website. wowloretldr.com.  This site, takes the history of Warcraft and breaks it down into super short bite size chunks.  The guys take a moment to ooh and aah over the website and how cool it is for lore nuts who might not enjoy reading quest text.  This site has a ton of good information and is really worth checking out in the guys’ opinion.

There has possibly been a leak revealing the next expansion.  Per some data mining on the ptr, there were some icons found that give a hint at a new zone and a new expansion.  Both Dusty and Ryan feel that the next expansion with what we already possibly know that this would be super cool.

To close out the WoW talk the guys briefly discuss one of the new mounts datamined for Argus and changes to artifact knowledge.  The mount looks really good and the guys are pumped to try and get it.  Artifact knowledge might see a boost to 50 in Argus.

Overwatch:

Ryan had a chance to try out Doomfist before the show.  Doomfist has a hand cannon that shoots rechargeable ammo out of his left hand.  The right hand contains the “Doomfist”.  This fist has an uppercut ability, a backhand ground slam ability, a punch that launches Doomfist forward, and an ultimate which launches Doomfist up in the air where the player can target a spot on the ground for Doomfist to come crashing down and one shot anyone caught standing there.  Ryan and Dusty also take some time to discuss the feel of Doomfist.

HOTS:

Dusty lets everyone know that Stukov launches today and is a support character.  A support character that is more utility than healing.  Dusty also takes some time to describe his abilities.

Diablo:

While everyone awaits the next season, Dusty tells everyone about a bug that people were exploiting to one shot everyone and infinitely level their characters paragon levels.  This exploit did bring about a hotfix and a double xp weekend coming up.

Blizzard Umbrella #23 : Overwatch league, Possible New Hearthstone Expansion, New Overwatch Hero, the Mythic Race, and Diablo Season 11!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty third recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp.  They guys were guests over on the Blue Recluse this week and had an absolute blast and can’t thank the boys over there enough.  This week the guys talk about the Overwatch League,  .  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

This past week Ryan has been spending most of his in game time doing Tomb of Sargeras stuff with and for his guild.  He also has been continuing to gear up his warlock and gearing up a DH tank.  Outside of WoW Ryan has been working a lot on different podcasts and YouTube videos, playing some Necromancer in Diablo, and finishing up his summer semester of school.

Dusty as well has been spending a lot of time in the World of Warcraft.  He managed to come to a Sunday Funday N ToS raid with Ryan’s guild and managed to do a few of the bosses on his mage in a pug raid.  Other than WoW Dusty has been playing some Necromancer as well and playing some Hearthstone in his spare moments.

Overwatch League and the New Hero:

At this current time it looks like Doomfist will indeed be the new hero and not our previously speculated Hammond.  With the amount of information that is coming out about him, the guys discuss briefly what Doomfist will end up being.  As well as Doomfist there has been some recent discussion about the Overwatch League and what the future holds for it.  Keeping that in mind the guys take some time to discuss the ramifications of not only the announcement of Overwatch League but the fallout from that announcement as well.  As the guys dive into the discussion Ryan mentions that one of the outcomes of the announcement was the loss of some of the current professional Overwatch teams.  Many sponsors upon realizing the direction Overwatch e-sports is headed realized that there wouldn’t be a place for teams, especially ones where the players were not in the same region, to drop their current sponsorships of their teams and players.  This in Ryan and Dusty’s opinion adds to the current feeling that the announcement was premature and was immediately detrimental to the sport.  On top of that, the situation also gives rise for an increased need for Blizzard to speed up the release of the League and to make it extremely successful.  A lot of players who had their salaries set are now effectively out of jobs and having to go back to relying on streaming revenue and tournament winnings.

Hearthstone:

Currently the Midsummer Fire Festival is going on and Dusty loves it.  This festival brings double gold rewards for quest completion.  This in Dusty’s mind, is not only awesome but a great opportunity for more players to immerse themselves into the game.  Dusty also mentions a post from Ben Brode expressing his very own liking to what this event does for the game and a desire to do more of these types of events.  Also in recent Hearthstone news, a recent leak out of China, has caused a stir with the hint at the next expansion being the Knights of the Frozen Throne.

World of Warcraft:

As the Mythic World race continues, Blizzard and the WoW team have already been releasing tweaks to the Tomb raid.  Ryan briefly discusses how easy it is for things to go missed with the increased focus from the dev team on new content push but it speaks volumes that they are constantly tweaking and balancing live content.  Dusty also takes some time to describe his experience in the Sunday Funday raid as he got to do more of the raid he has yet to be able to experience first hand.

Mythic World Race:

As the WoW talks winds down, the guys take some time to discuss the race.  Method managed to kill the second to last boss and be the first guild to get a world first without at least one other guild following suit in the same day, in this race.  Ryan also takes some time to explain the strategy of raid lock outs that many Mythic race guilds utilize.

Diablo Season 11:

Season 11 brings some new rewards, with a goblin picture frame being one.  Dusty can not wait and must have it.  Thursday July 20th will mark the beginning of season 11.

HotS:

The current brawl in Heroes of the Storm is a pull a party.  A pull party as Ryan explains is a brawl where all players are playing Stitches, surrounding a pool, and using their only ability, pull, to hook the opposing team’s members across the pool.  It’s a lot of fun and everyone should give it a go.

Blizzcon Tickets:

Blizzard did one last round of ticket sales for Blizzcon, and much to everyone’s dismay, they sold out extremely fast.  Okay well, lets be honest, we all expected them to go lightning fast.  Congrats to everyone that managed to snag tickets.

Blizzard Umbrella #22 : Argus, Tier 21, New Hearthstone Expansion, and the Necromancer!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty second recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp.  Tier 21 appearances, a new Hearthstone expansion, Argus, and the Necromancer all make the weekly discussion.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

This past week Ryan has been spending most of his in game time doing Tomb of Sargeras stuff with and for his guild.  He also has been continuing to gear up his warlock.  Outside of WoW Ryan finished his placement matches in Overwatch, purchased the Necromancer pack, and has been working a lot on both podcasts.

Dusty as well has been spending a lot of time in the World of Warcraft.  He managed to get a few games of HotS in and has been playing his Necromancer in Diablo.  For WoW, Dusty has been trying out the new raid, leveling up charcters that he hasn’t yet, and working on class mounts.

Argus:

Information recently data mined from the PTR has brought some news to the attention of the public recently that Argus very well could have some zones.  One of the big worries for Ryan was that Argus would just be a raid and not fleshed out very well.  Dusty informs everyone that Argus outside of the raid and the new dungeon will be like the Timeless Isles.

Tier 21:

Some other information that came from this data mining were models for tier 21.  Based on the models Ryan feels like that for the first time in a long time, the tier for the most part is all around very good looking.  His past impressions of raid tiers as far back as Wrath of the Lich King was such that he felt like the players would only get 1 or 2 good looking class sets.  Tier 21 however is amazing looking for Ryan.

Further Cinematic Storyline Moments:

Dusty and Ryan talk about the announcement that Argus will bring about more cinematic story moments tied in with story quests.

New Dungeon:

Argus will also bring a new dungeon, Seat of the Triumvirate, to the docket and the guys briefly discuss how they feel the new dungeon will fit in.

Nether like Crucible:

A nether like crucible will potentially be coming to WoW which will allow players a way to customize relics.  Ryan explains to Dusty why this would be a good addition to help alleviate the pain that is farming relics for raiding based on their traits, by making a way for players to alter their current relics to be more viable.

New Raid Lead  in:

The guys take a moment to discuss the new raid and the possibility of another round of lead in quests like with 7.2.5.  Both Ryan and Dusty feel like repeating the weekly quests that players saw with the Broken Shore will be a very bad thing and should be avoided.  The guys also discuss how excited they are to finally see the end of what has been a struggle the residents of Azeroth and beyond have been fighting for a very long time.

New Hearthstone Xpac:

Thursday July 6th will bring a new expansion announcement for Hearthstone.

Necromancer:

The Necromancer is on live servers now.  Dusty has been able to get in some time with it and Ryan plans to try it out this coming weekend.  Dusty feels like the Necromancer game play feels really good and is a ton of fun.

New HotS Hero:

Check out the link below for the new hero teaser.

Blizzard Umbrella #21 : Tomb First Impressions, Peanut Butter on the Moon, and the Necromancer!!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twenty first recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are excited to talk about a lot of the news coming out of the Blizzard camp.  The Tomb of Sargeras hits live servers, there is floating peanut butter on the Moon in Overwatch, and the Necromancer cost and drop date is finally announced.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

This past week Ryan and his guild, along with the majority of the WoW community have been in the Tomb of Sargeras and slaying some bosses.  This in turn has meant that a lot of Ryan’s game focus has been geared towards the new raid and the guild.  Outside of that school, a little bit of Overwatch, and some Heroes of the Storm have been in the playlist.

Dusty as well got to jump into Tomb and see some of the first few bosses.  Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm also saw some game time from Dusty.  The cross promotional events for Dusty are a big enjoyment.  For Hearthstone, Dusty has been doing his typical 4-5 games a day trying to climb the rankings ladder.

Tomb of Sargeras First Impressions:

Dusty was the first of the duo to be able to jump into Tomb and feels like the new raid is both aesthetically and mechanically super cool.  Whilst Dusty was only able to have enough time for the first few bosses, he did really enjoy what he was able to see and do.  Dusty also felt it prudent to rub it in to Ryan that he was able to jump in first.  This experience for Dusty was a good eye opener of how fun being in a raid with progression being the emphasis, even on normal difficulty, is very fun.  Ryan added to this sentiment that on multiple occasions when he and his guild have been able to drag people through a raid and with an organized group has been enough to convince them that an organized progression raid can be more fun than it seems.  As Ryan’s guild at the time of the show recording was only a few bosses short of clearing it on normal difficulty, he expresses his approval of the new raid.  He does wonder how he will feel a month or more in but for the time being the raid is fresh, a lot of fun, and very aesthetically pleasing.  The guys also talk on the fact that this raid could very well be the beginning of the end for the struggle that the WoW community has been battling against for over a decade.  To finish out the guys take a moment to discuss the possible future past Argus which comes after Tomb.  What can we expect with Argus and beyond?!

Necromancer Release Date and Cost:

As the Necromancer makes its’ debut to the live servers at a cost of $15, there is a lot of excitement around this news.  The release date will be June 27th with Rise of the Necromancer.  You can purchase this with a WoW token.  Along with the Necromancer, players who make this purchase will get an assortment of other in game Necromancer themed items.  With the Necromancer drop, new maps and questing will come to the game, providing players even more to do than there currently is.  Both Ryan and Dusty are excited to get in there with season 11 and experience the new content with the rest of the Diablo community.

Peanut Butter on the Moon:

Neither one of the guys have been able to play the new Lunar Colony map in an actual game but before the show the guys were able to fire up a custom arcade game with some AI and explore the new map.  Both guys laughed and found it hilarious that as you venture outside into the low gravity area, there is in fact jars of peanut butter floating around.  The rest of the map felt very fleshed out to the guys and really showcased the Overwatch teams’ ability to put together and deliver a very dynamic and detail oriented map that on top of all that really plays into the story of specific characters.  Ryan wonders how much is the map designed with the intent to play into the design of both Winston and Hammond if he is indeed the new heroe coming to the lineup.  Overwatch also announced that moving forward in the very near future some loot box changes will bring about the reduction of duplicate chances for items.

Hearthstone Loot Changes:

Ben Brode recently released a video announcing some news that there will be some changes made to the way card packs work in Hearthstone which also reflects some changes with loot in Overwatch.  This news established the fact that Legendary cards will no longer have a chance to be duplicated after they are first received which will make playing Hearthstone much more affordable and easier to get into.  Both Dusty and Ryan expressed their joy at this fact.

Blizzard Umbrella #20 : Looking back at the Legionfall Campaign, Hammond to Overwatch, and the Lich King Returns?!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twentieth recording.  The guys have both been hard at work on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week Dusty makes his triumphant return after a much-needed vacation and the guys talk about some exciting Blizzard things that are on the horizon.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What we’ve been up to:

Ryan this past week has been putting the pedal to the floor with guild raid prep as Tomb of Sargeras is knocking on the door.  Outside of guild raid prep Ryan has been gearing up his Destruction Warlock to be his main raid toon for Tomb.  Ryan has also been playing some HotS with Dusty and doing the typical real life stuff.  He has also been working hard on his other podcast The Raider's Confessional.

Dusty this past week was on vacation.  For the most part, he disconnected from the internet and only played a few games of Hearthstone when he had some down time.  Over the last few days leading up to this show's recording, Dusty did manage to hit grindstone in Overwatch with his placement matches and some more HotS for the Diablo event.  In WoW, Dusty managed to get his Hunter mount and absolutely loves it.  Dusty also talks about how he is not super happy about not being able to use his class mounts on all of his characters.  That being said he likes most of the class mounts and thinks they are pretty cool.

Looking back at 7.2 to 7.2.5:

As the guys take a look back at 7.2 one thing comes through loud and clear.  With what was originally intended for the Broken Shore and the accompanying quests to what we see now on live, Ryan talks to the fact that he feels like Blizzard really missed the mark on this one.  The quests were lackluster, tedious, nothing new, and in general not fun.  Dusty also feels like a better solution to the Broken Shore content would have been a quest line that takes you all over Azeroth revisiting when we began and gone through with the Legion conflict.

Kerrigan Wings:

The guys quick touch on the Kerrigan wings that are coming to D3 via the HotS crossover event.  They both think they are super cool and are excited to play some Necro and get in D3 when some more new content drops.

Hammond to Overwatch?!:

It was mentioned in the last episode that there is a pretty credible source leaking newsthat the new hero to join the ranks of Overwatch is a Chimpanzee name Hammond.  Hammond, like Winston, was result of the moon experiments except he comes from the other side of the fence from Winston.  Hammond is angry, there is a rivalry between him and Winston, and he is supposedly a new support hero.  He has a barrier and a stun that he can place.  The guys go on to talk about how the dynamics that are entertained between all the characters make the game super cool and fun to play all the different characters.

Return of the Lich King Hearthstone Expansion?!:

There was a recent leak via a domain purchase by Blizzard, returnofhelichking.com, that the next expansion in Hearthstone could very well be a Lich King-themed one.  A lot of the speculation and talk has been that it will not be a WoW related piece of content but rather a Hearthstone one.  There have been some Lich King cardbacks which also leads the community to believe it is indeed a Hearthstone expansion.  The guys talk some more about the time line and how the story is fleshed out inside of the game.  As the guys wrap of the Hearthstone talk, the chat ends up on a brief discussion about how hilarious the recent shorts the Hearthstone team has been putting out have been.

Getting ready for Tomb:

Dusty asks Ryan what he would suggest to the listeners who are interested in raiding what they should be doing to get ready for Tomb.  He suggests that everyone be making sure they are getting their gear, artifact traits, artifact knowledge, and 3rd relic unlocked and all up to snuff.  Make sure you are doing world quests and whatever other gear outlets are available to ensure your gear, stats, and item level are up to speed.  On top of that wowhead has a Tomb prep guide out that Ryan suggests to everyone as a good source of this type of information.

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the nineteenth recording. The guys have both been hard at work on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game. This week the guys are talking about some of the exciting news coming out of Blizzard. There has been a lot of news coming out of Blizzard this week and the guys are eager to talk about it. The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What we’ve been up to:

Dusty is off on a much needed vacation with his family. While he is enjoying his time off with the wife and kid Ryan is keeping the show running. Dusty will be back with the regular recording next week, but this week, Ryan has a special guest on the show and his name is Anthony!

This past week Ryan has been a leveling machine. With Tomb of Sargeras right around the corner, Ryan has been scrambling and leveling toons trying to find what character he will play for Tomb to fill whatever voids his guild ends up having. Outside of WoW after Ryan takes care of the real life on goings we all deal with, the podcasts and school, there hasn't been much time for other games.

Anthony, makes his podcast Debut. He tells the show that he plays tons of WoW and Hearthstone but other than playing Diablo with content releases he doesn't find himself playing many of the other games. Anthony finds himself enjoying leveling but not the grind for gear. In WoW Anthony labels himself as a hardcore casual. He doesn't raid in any capacity but really enjoys rep grinds. He has been enjoying these rep grinds since his first days of WoW in the latter portion of Wrath.

Raid Pacing:

Recently Blizzard made a comment that they feel raid pacing in Legion has been good. Ryan feels like yes, they can absolutely hold to to that claim with EN and ToV and into Nighthold. They can not however claim that Nighthold into Tomb of Sargeras was good pacing. It has been what Ryan feels like, the opposite of what Blizzard had claimed they would not do again. They claimed that they wouldn't repeat the staleness that was Warlords of Draenor and yet Ryan feels like they are right back there with the wait for Tomb and not to mention the giant ball that is the Broken Shore they dropped. That being said however, Ryan and his guild is overly ready and excited for Tomb.

Class Mounts are here:

This past week marked the appearance of class mounts. Anthony got his mount but explains that mounts aren't something he gets overly excited about. Mounts for Anthony serve a purpose and with or with out the cosmetics of those mounts, as long as the job he needs them to do gets, done, he is more than happy.

Pet Battle Dungeons:

Anthony tells the listeners about the new pet battle dungeon that's on its way, Deadmines! This dungeon will bring some great nostalgia and another dungeon to pet battle dungeon pool, along side Wailing Caverns. The new dungeon will also bring some more pets to the game!

Black Temple Timewalking:

Black Temple makes its' return with time walking. Ryan's group is looking forward to this and will more than likely go in on a raid night to knock it out and relive some of the past glory that was Burning Crusade. The gear that drops out the raid will scale to the level of your character and the encounters will still have mechanics that will need to be taken care of. This raid will not be a push over like looking for raid.

Legendary and Heirlooms:

Legendaries will get bumped to 970 with an item that is obtainable to to upgrade already existing legendaries. Heirlooms will also see a bump to 110 with Tomb of Sargeras.

Necromancer:

The Necromancer beta went live last week which means Necromancers being live is inching its way closer.

Diablo Cross Over:

Maltheal a new assasin is coming to HOTS and the cross over event in HOTS this time is for Diablo. With this event after playing 15 games in a party with a friend you get a cool death horse like mount in HOTS and ghost Kerrigan wings in Diablo. This event starts on the 13th.

A New Hero Leaked for Overwatch:

There has been a pretty good leak recently about a new hero coming to Overwatch. This hero's name appears to be Hammond, who is a chimpanzee support character. This character has placeable hook points that either puts up a barrier or stuns.

Anniversary Event:

The anniversary event ends the 12th so make sure to get in there and get your loot boxes while you can.

Hearthstone:

Hearthstone is going to see some new features like deck importing and golden card stacking.

Discussion:

Ryan Anthony talk about Blizzard resource management. Ryan feels like the resources for WoW have been spread thin and in some cases away from some things that would have once upon a time not gone neglected with the push putting out more content quicker than they have in the past.

The guys also discuss what could the secret dev team at Blizzard be cooking up? Is it a mobile game? All Anthony knows is that he hopes it's not free to play.

Anthony wants a Warcraft 4!

Blizzard Umbrella #18 : What to do when there is nothing to do?! Tomb release date and a new Overwatch map!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the eighteenth recording.  The guys have both been hard at work on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are talking about some of the exciting news coming out of Blizzard.  The WoW dev team finally gives a release date for Tomb and Overwatch announces a new map.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What we’ve been up to:

This past week Ryan has been away from the computer to spend time with his significant other who just took off  for a summer job.  The one night he did get to play games he managed to level a DK to 100 and get caught up on all his emissaries and other things in WoW on his main.

Dusty has been playing Hearthstone and another card game called Gwent.  Dusty has also been playing a lot HOTS and doing so with some D.Va and Genji action.  Other than that Dusty has been keeping up with his emissaries in WoW and slowly leveling his DH this past week.

Release date for Tomb:

Recently Blizzard has finally told the community that the release date for Tomb is finally on the calendar.  That date is the 20th of June.  Dusty asks Ryan on the general feeling he and his guild have on this release date.  While there is a big amount of disappointment from both Ryan and his guild that this date is later than it should be, there is still a big amount of relief that the date is finally here and not that far around the corner.  This date marks the beginning of the end for NH and the start of preparing for Tomb.  Ryan's guild made the jump into mythic in Nighthold and are looking to dive deeper into mythic with Tomb.  This means that with this release date on the calendar, Ryan and the other officers will be looking at guild policies to see what is working, what hasn't been working, and look to address any of these things that need attention before Tomb comes.  This is done with the intent to improve the guild so that larger amounts of success can be had in Tomb progression.  Dusty feels like  from what he has seen with Tomb that a lot of that raid is very similar to what we have seen in the past.  This apprehension from Dusty doesn't come without some hope that Tomb will still be a fun and exciting raid.  Ryan's worry is slightly different in the fact that he thinks there might be the situation where, because everyone has been twirling their thumbs with the waiting game that some of the initial excitement with Tomb might be short lived.

New Overwatch map:

The Overwatch team has announce that a new map called, Horizon Lunar Colony, is coming to the map circuit.  Horizon is on the moon and is based in Winston's old stomping grounds.  There will be some spots with anti gravity effects.  Dusty talks about how every time the Overwatch team releases a content reveal, with them doing such a good job, he is left wanting more.  Ryan asks Dusty about his thoughts on how he thinks the dev team portrayed Winston in the release video.  While Dusty feels like they did a good job making Winston seem like the overly intelligent gorilla he is, Ryan felt like they almost made him seem like a big dumb brute at times.  Dusty thinks this might be intended because Winston does have a bit of a blend of these characteristics due to the nature of how he came to be who he is via this lab.  Ryan asks Dusty what drives his character picks in game.  Dusty's response is that for the most part in competitive it is with the intent of team comp and winning but in quick play, he often does pick characters because he likes them and their story.

Broken Shore is broken..........:

Ryan talks about how this week's Broken Shore quest is both broken and a waste of time.  This week's quest is to complete three Legionfall Order Hall quests from your mission board.  Ryan, and many other players are finding it incredibly difficult to get these missions to even appear on their mission boards not to mention it is yet another week of a lazy lack luster time gated quest chain.  Dusty as well feels like this is the case and it feels like Blizzard is just using these lack luster quests to tide us over until Tomb releases.  Ryan feels like this week in particular is especially bad because where the previous quests were doable despite the lack of creativeness with them, this week's quest is gated and extremely difficult to do because the missions don't even show up.

What to do when there is nothing to do:

The guys bring up the fact that in a lot of Blizzard's game lately we have been in a dead spot with content.  There hasn't been a lot of new stuff coming out.  In WoW the players have been waiting for Tomb for quite a while now and this is the same with some of the other games.  Keeping this in mind Dusty asks Ryan what he does when these slow times come about.  Ryan tells Dusty he often hops on an alt, plays other games, and does his best to try and do other things to keep the gaming fresh and not boring and monotonous.  This is often is a time to do some of the things people have been putting off because they were playing another game of choice.  The guys also talk about, with all the cross over events that Blizzard does, is the intent of Blizzard to keep people playing one game or keep them playing all of them games.  Dusty feels like the intent is to keep people playing games inside of the Blizzard ecosystem.

Help Wanted:

The show is still looking for a third co-host.  If you are interested and think you would be a good fit, use the contact info listed below to get in touch with the guys.

If you would be interested in being a part of a discord community that strives to aid the WoW raiding community with resources that compliment the already existing class discords, contact Ryan.

Blizzard Umbrella #17 : Concordiance, Grilled, and Collomboration, that's what I have to say.  Destiny 2, Overwatch development league, and WoW artifact knowledge!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the seventeenth recording.  The guys have both been hard at work both on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys are talking about some of the exciting news coming out of Blizzard.  Destiny 2, the Overwatch development league, the Overwatch event, 2.0,  and some more changes with WoW.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What we’ve been up to:

This week Ryan went with Dusty to get their Riddler's mount, play some Heroes, and try out some PUBG!  Ryan's guild has changed up their format to one raid day they do a fun day where they either do old content or acheivement focused raiding and the other day they do progression.  This past week they went back and did some Mythic EN and had a blast.

Dusty really enjoyed going back and doing some older content and getting the Riddler's mount.  Outside of WoW Dusty has been playing some Heroes and a lot of Hearthstone.

Overwatch development league:

Ryan feels like this move by Blizzard is a good move.  It appears to be an attempt to mimic how actual professional sports are with their respective farm leagues.  This for Ryan, provides a stepping stone that allows for players to have an easy time to work their way into the professional arena.  It causes for there to a be a much more smooth linear progression from quick play to paid professional.  It will also help to keep the game relevant.  Dusty feels like while some people may have a hard time watching much less understanding what's going on when watching Overwatch, he is really enjoying watching Overwatch.  This Contender's league for Dusty provides a lot more opportunities to watch the game.  It also makes people feel like they actually have a shot at being a “contender”.  In the past, Ryan feels like players had to know people or take huge financial risks to get into the pro scene.  This type of development league allows for people to have an easier time working their way into the scene.

Artifact Knowledge 40:

The WoW development team has decided to scale back max artifact knowledge from 50 to 40.  Ryan feels like these changes have come from a place where Blizzard didn't necessarily know how much knowledge was going to be necessary to account for the time needed to max out a player's weapon with artifact traits.   A lot of the end game players, however, have been already reaching the Concordance of the Legionfall.  Even casual players aren't too far away from reaching that paragon trait.  Artifact power is obtainable in an increasing array of options.  This has brought about an understanding by Blizzard that artifact knowledge 50 is complete overkill.  There also isn't a large need to put paragon traits into Concordance of the Legionfall as a raider so there is no rush past getting that first point into the trait.  Dusty mentions that Blizzard also is going to allow players who have reached max artifact knowledge to give max artifact knowledge to their alts.  This means that players with that knowledge level will be able to max out their weapon much quicker than normal.  Ryan feels like this is a smart move on Blizzard's part due to players burning out and quitting the game from the AP grind.  This will not only make the need to grind AP be lessened but alsomake gearing and playing alts at an end game level more doable.  Having to redo something like a large grind over again is never something that players should feel like they have to do.  Dusty asks Ryan if he thinks Blizzard will continue to increase traits and artifact knowledge in future patches.  Ryan feels like it is inevitable with the design and fantasy of this expansion.  This will mean that more than likely artifact knowledge will have to go up and players will probably see some more traits with a possible trait squish before giving players more traits.

Destiny 2 hits the Blizzard launcher:

The announcement was made recently that Destiny 2 will be coming to PC exclusively through the Blizzard launcher.  Initially Ryan was indifferent with this news considering it has no bearing on his gaming experience.  Both Dusty and Ryan feel like that the big worry, which has been voiced from the community, is that this opens the door for a lot of non Blizzard games coming to the launcher and effectively turning it into another Steam or Origins type of situation.  Dusty feels like this is a good move on Blizzard's part because it will help to grow their already large community of players across all of their games.  Dusty does however feel like it's not a great move to have the PC version launch so much later than the console version.  Ryan feels like this will remove the first look experience for PC players due to the fact that console players will have a 3 month jump on the PC community.  Both Dusty and Ryan though have been getting more and more excited for this game as they continue to talk about it.  Ryan also mentions per a Blizzard post, there Is no intention at this current time to put any other non Blizzard games on the launcher.

News

Overwatch:  Overwatch anniversary event is here!

WoW:  Blizzard has been providing more formal opportunities for player feedback which has translated into some class changes!

HotS:  Has Blizzard tricked Overwatch players into playing Heroes?

Blizzard Umbrella #16 : We've got guests!  The Blue Recluse guys come to visit!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the sixteenth recording.  The guys have both been hard at work both on the show, off the show, in game, and out of game.  This week the guys have guests on the show!  Marty and Michael from The Blue Recluse, have graced Dusty and Ryan with their presence for the show's first ever guest episode.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

With Michael being the first person on the show that actually plays Starcraft, Ryan and Dusty both comment on how they both love to watch people play Starcraft but neither have really spent much if any time on the game.

Dusty asks Michael and Marty what their thoughts on HotS 2.0 are.  Marty talks about how he likes the game a lot and he feels that 2.0 has almost been a revival for the game .  He really likes the new progression and loot box system, it's really made the game addicting again and is owed some well deserved praise. Michael feels that 2.0 has seen a bit of face lift to bring the game back into the spotlight and bring people back to the game.  Dusty follows up the guys by talking about how he feels like the game play and everything that comes with 2.0 just all feels good and makes the game very appetizing to play.  Ryan, having come from a bit more of a competitive MOBA background with DOTA and HoN, asks the guys to weigh in on whether they feel that with 2.0 and other crossover events has brought some artificial enticement to the game that causes for the cyclical influx of players to the game or not.   Michael feels that while at face value this is true, Blizzard's underlying intention is not just to get players to the game but try and keep them playing once they have started.  For Marty, the game got an Overwatch treatment with loot, where while he doesn't enjoy competitive Overwatch he still enjoys playing because he enjoys getting the loot boxes.  Dusty talks about how he really loves the feeling he gets when he gets to open loot in games like HotS, Overwatch and Hearthstone.

Dusty asks the guys what they think the split is between competitive and casual players in games like these.  Michael thinks the proportions are overwhelmingly in favor of the casual player base but the games see cycles of players delving into competitive.  Marty thinks that access to competitive play in team based games like HotS and Overwatch is more in favor of the casual players because trying to be competitive on a solo basis can be challenging.

As the talk progresses further into the balance of casual and competitive players , Ryan talks about how to not only be a part of a team but also a successful one, the people involved need to have similar goals in mind but also be compatible in the sense that everyone needs to enjoys being around each other.  Marty mentions how a lot of the time when a guild in WoW has an application involved in its' recruitment process, it's there to help filter out people who might not fit in with the group.  Dusty touches on how he feels that Blizzard does a good job catering to both the casual and competitive crowds.

With the Blue Recluse guys joining the show, it only seemed fitting to ask them their history behind their tenurship in the Blizzard universe and what those games have meant for them.  Michael talks about how as a kid he played some of the Blizzard games on his dad's playstation.  When he got older and was able to get his own PC he started really getting into the Blizzard games with Starcraft and Warcraft.  As Michael spent a lot of his youth playing sports because video games were not “cool”, his gaming didn't really take a front seat in his life until he got to go to Blizzcon.  This Blizzcon was the catalyst that brought Michael to his place in the digital community and his seat on The Blue Recluse.  Dusty tells Michael that he, like Michael spent much of his gaming, playing solo until he started doing the show and playing games with Ryan.  This experience has really shown Dusty how enjoyable playing with other people really brings a whole new meaning and enjoyment to games.  Michael agrees that playing games with other people and being a part of a community, big or small, is so much more enjoyable and fruitful. Michael also mentions that being a part of a group really helps to alleviate the annoyances that come with the impatient nature of people in pugs.  Marty chimes in with the comment that while some of the pugging scenes like LFR can be extremely toxic, they are in now way shape or form indicative of what the raid scene has to offer.  Ryan and Michael take the talk over to how Blizzcon really solidified that playing games was who they are and they really like being a part of a community that shares in their same passions.

Marty, with some ribbing of course, admits to his old age in the fact that he started playing Blizzard games with Lost Vikings and has played almost all of the Blizzard games as they have graced the digital community with their presence.  At a point in his life that studying became a priority, Marty took a break from games but got sucked back in with the release of World of Warcraft.  As he came back to the community, he started playing with people from all over Europe.  After spending so much time with these people and forming friendships online with them, the decision was made to do a meetup.  This meetup ended up being something Marty couldn't go to but as a phoenix rises out of the ashes, an opportunity arose when a guild mate decided to come to Marty's neck of the woods for New Years.  As people heard about this more and more joined in on the New Year's fun with each year's passing.  That group still meets up today.  Ryan talks about how he as well has made life long friends from playing these games and still talks to people he made friends with years ago.  People who might not even play anymore.

While Marty and Michael have both given their stories, Marty graciously tells the guys the story of their third co-host, Tom who was unable to be in attendance.  Tom came to WoW with some people he played another mmo with.  In a happy accident, Tom managed to end up on a different server than the people he came to the game with.  He ended up on Marty's server.  He and Marty met out in the world while questing and the rest is history.  This eventually led to Marty and Tom creating The Blue Recluse.

While Marty and Tom created their show and have been doing it for a while, Michael eventually made his way onto the show as a co-host.  As Marty and Tom realized that bringing someone else on to the show who is of a different mindset or favors different games, they put the word out they were looking for a co-host.  Michael heard the call, answered it, and managed to go from a listener of the show to a now third leg of what is a great show, The Blue Recluse.

Marty and Dusty both feel like the podcasts are a great way for everyone to discuss and fan the flames of their inner nerd.  Marty feels that the podcast has caused for him to be a bit more opinionated and reserved about what games he spends his money on.

Marty talks about the interaction they have with their listeners.  He also tells the guys how he remembers the excitement that came with the first e-mail their show received from a listener.

News

Overwatch:  Overwatch will be seeing two books released.  The Art of Overwatch and The Anthology of Overwatch Vol. 1.

WoW:  A recent collection of data has given a very inconsistent number of classes and specs that have been able to conquer their respective challenge appearance events.

Hearthsone: A video by a respected pro player in Hearthstone has been making the rounds lately.  The video talks about two of the biggest problems with Hearthstone, being the cost and the RNG of the game.  This video is receiving a good amount of traction so it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it from Blizzard.

HotS:  D.Va is very close to making her appearance in HotS.

Blizzard Umbrella #15 : Secrets don't make friends Blizzard, or do they?!  New legendaries in WoW?

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the fifteenth recording.  The guys have both been busy and hard at it with the real life grind but have managed to get another show recorded.  This week the guys talk about some interesting news to come out of China and what does it mean for Blizzard's games.  There's also some talk of more legendaries coming to the World of Warcraft in 7.2.5.The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’ve Been Up to:

This past week Ryan and his guild have been working to get some new raid members up to snuff.  His guild has also been working to get the group back into the mythics considering Tomb of Sargeras is probably still a good ways off.  Outside of WoW Ryan has been working hard off the air to get the new podcast ready.  That hard work has paid off as the first recording for the new show about the raiding scene in World of Warcraft will more than likely happen tonight (5.10.17).  Ryan announces that he will announce the launch of the show via the Blizzard Umbrella Twitter right after the recording with the info needed to find the new show.

Dusty has managed to get a bunch of game time in this past week.  He has been working his way up the ladder in Hearthstone and been dabbling with some fun decks.  Dusty also managed to get into a small Overwatch binge in an attempt to climb the ranks in competitive only to find his success washed away in the toxic low ranks.  This experience has Dusty considering holding off from competitive Overwatch until next season in June.  In WoW Dusty has been spending some more time leveling his Demonhunter with his newly acquired ability to fly.  The flying has reinforced Dusty's liking for some of the zones aesthetically, like Highmountain.  The flying has also made some of the World Quests super easy, especially the Kirin Tor ones.  In Heroes of the Storm, Dusty has been continuing to enjoy the awesomeness that is 2.0.  Dusty also is chomping at the bit to play the new Necromancer in Diablo.

Secrets Don't Make Friends Blizzard:

Recently news has made its way around that China has passed a new law that would require Blizzard to divulge the drop chances for items out of loot boxes, card packs, or any other item that could be considered gambling, if it wishes to continue to sell and push their games in China.  While the specifics of this news could very possibly be not entirely accurate it does bring the question of whether or not this could possibly be a good thing to the table.  Considering this news, the guys discuss how this translates to the current state of Blizzard's games when it comes to these items that contain unknown random items.  Dusty feels like this is a good thing considering how much money is actually being spent on these items from players.  Ryan is on the fence because divulging some of this information in some way is a win for the players due to the fact people have been asking for this type of information for quite some time.  On the other hand this causes for Blizzard to have to restructure some of it's business model and marketing strategies as well as some disclaimers due to the inherent liabilities that would come Blizzard's way as players start to realize that on an individual level the drop chances may not reflect accurately.  Ryan also goes as far as to explain that Blizzard would have to do a good job explaining that drop chances apply to an average across the community rather than on an individual player level.  This also will force Blizzard to be a bit more upfront and honest which could be very good for the community Ryan feels.  Dusty notes that there have been a decent amount of conspiracy theories floating around that are almost all guaranteed to be false.  Ryan mentions that because these numbers will have to be given out to the players in China, the numbers will be available to everyone.  With this fact comes the possibility for people to take advantage of the system.  Dusty thinks obviously people will always try to cheat the system and take advantage, but ultimately feels that Blizzard in its true fashion will do a good job to keep the game going and going strong.  Dusty also feels that most of the items in question are aesthetic and the games that have items that aren't aesthetic, have systems in place for people to continue to work towards obtaining items outside of spending money.  This in turn means that it doesn't really affect game play much less the fact that it will still be very hard to cheese the system even with this information.   Ryan also wants to know how much keeping some information secret has either worked for or against Blizzard in a business sense.  The guys both ask for any listeners out there that have more specific knowledge on drop chances and even this news piece to message into the show.  They'd love to hear from you.

News

Overwatch:  Overwatch just got announced to be Blizzard's next IP to reach a billion dollars inside of a year.

WoW:  PTR and current news all points to 7.2.5 bringing new legendaries for each class.  These legendaries in their current form are rings and each ring has stamina, a gem socket, and an equip that gives each class access to a talent.  T19 and T20 set bonuses for some classes look to be receiving changes in 7.2.5 to ensure that T20 is ultimately more desirable over T19.

Hearthsone: A lot of wild stuff is going on!

HotS:  This week brings continuation of the 5 weeks to unlocking D.Va.

Blizzard Umbrella #14: Lazy WoW team? Is there more to this quest?  May the 4th be with you!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the fourteenth recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy but have managed to get another show in the books.  This week the guys talk about some of the important news in the Blizzard universe and some frustrations with 7.2.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

Shoutouts:

A friend of the show, Michael aka AcidTearz, wrote the guys a super cool e-mail reliving his experience to Blizzcon '14.  When the guys talked about experiencing a moment where you can be with thousands of other people who share in the same passions, it really hit home for Michael.  The moment in question for Michael was Blizzcon '14.  He went into this adventure all on his own and came out with a new outlook and a whole new community to share in his passions.  Thanks a bunch Michael, the e-mail was awesome!  Keep up the good work!

A big thanks to both Rho over at Realm Maintenance and The Blue Recluse guys for all the support they have been giving to the Blizzard Umbrella team.

What We’re Up to:

This past week Dusty has been playing a lot of WoW.  He has unlocked flying and is relishing every moment he no longer is ground bound.  There have been some frustration for Dusty though, particularly with 7.2 and the dev team,.  This weeks Broken Shore quest is to do 12 world quests in the zone.  Dusty doesn't understand why there is a quest that has nothing other than to go do world quests which by the way you can't do it in one sitting.  Why can't the dev team give a quest that has more to do with the actual opening and story behind the Tomb of Sargeras?  Ryan agrees and thinks that Blizzard has been lazy with the opening of ToS since the beginning of 7.2.  Mid June for the raid drop is way too long and indicative of the very thing they were looking to avoid this expansion.  Dusty also feels like Legion is probably one of the least alt friendly expansions.  Part of this for Dusty is due to the amount of repeat content that is required to level up alts.  Ryan talks about how there have been points of catch up for alts with AK catch up mechanics and changes to that system.  That being said he still feels like Wrath has been the most alt friendly expansion.  In order to level alt this expansion, however, the hurdles that are necessary to overcome are artifact traits and legendaries.  When leveling an alt the biggest things to focus on are getting your boosted artifact knowledge, starting the artifact knowledge research, opening the third relic slot, and then doing every world quest that has resources, artifact power, and gear.  Dusty has been tapping into some of the gear obtaining resources in game currently and has bumped his hunter's item level by almost 10 levels.

Other than WoW Dusty has been playing a lot of Hearthstone and recaps a little bit of the Dreamhack Hearthstone tournament.  Dusty also talks about the excitement that comes with the potential drop of the Necromancer in Season 11 of Diablo.

Ryan hasn't had a ton of game time other than WoW due to it being his last week of the semester.  That being said he has however gotten his Shaman up to speed for raiding and has been enjoying the new toon.  On top of that, he has been working behind the scenes on a soon to be announced podcast that focuses on the WoW raiding scene and a potential discord community.

News

WoW:  The mythic plus system is potentially seeing some big changes.  The chest system will likely be seeing a reduction of 1-3 chests to 1 chest no matter how fast you do the run.  The 1 chest will have more items based on the speed of the dungeon completion.  Keystones will now either go up or down based on completion.

Overwatch:  Hanzo is getting some bumps to his damage output with a reduced charge time on storm bow.  Genji, Soldier, Orissa, Reaper, and Reinhart also have some potential changes coming.

HotS: The 2.0 event and exciting adventures are still active!

Blizzard Umbrella #13 : Teamwork Makes Dreamwork!  Community talk

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the thirteenth recording.  The guys have been working and discussing off air about progressing the show.  They both feel it’s time to bring in a third voice to the show.  Wanted: Third co-host who is outgoing and able to work with recording times! The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what the guys have been up to.

What We’re Up to:

This past week Dusty has been able to get a good amount of game time in.  In WoW, Dusty is starting to feel like 7.2 and the Broken Shores is starting to grow on him.  Part of what makes this enjoyable for him is the fact that he really enjoys the world quests system.  Dusty attributes this to an addon called word quest group finder.  Ryan gives his stamp of approval of the addon.  Dusty touches on his desire for a change of pace and scenery in the next expansion.  No more fel green he says!  Ryan wants Old Gods stuff!  Dusty wraps up the WoW talk with his progress getting him close to having flying unlocked.  Dusty expresses his frustration with the Overwatch competitive play system as he tries to move up in the rankings.  Dusty has also been playing lots of Hearthstone still and loving it.  Heroes 2.0 can’t come soon enough for Dusty.

For Ryan, this past week has been filled with lots of school as the semester winds down but he did manage to get his shaman leveled to 110.  Not much has happened in the raiding scene for Ryan and his guild but they are looking to get back on the progression wagon very soon.  Ryan tells Dusty about how he was sitting on the item to get the fox mount for months when some of his guild members had been farming it to no avail.  Ryan and Dusty talk about how nice leveling is with flying unlocked, especially in zones like Highmountain and Stormheim.  The guys also talk about how quick and easy leveling is now compared to Legion’s launch.

Quick Chat

Dusty and Ryan open up this week’s chat with the new Anduin cinematic.  Dusty discusses how awesome the cinematic is and how much he thinks it really brings Anduin into adulthood and a real figure head as King.  Ryan asks Dusty what Anduin’s true purpose of being there is.

Part of what makes all of Blizzard’s games so awesome is the community aspect they bring to the table.  As the guys have grown up with these games the idea of community has taken on respective meanings for both Dusty and Ryan.  Ryan talks about all the life-long friends he has made through these games and talks about how he has had so many cool adventures and trips meeting these people.  Part of what makes this possible for Ryan is the fact that a person can spend so much time with the people they play with.  More so than people outside of games at times.  For Dusty these games have been a bit more of a solo play and a pug situation until recently.  Dusty feels that he has been very lucky with encouragement from family and friends to enjoy his gaming hobby and is really starting to realize how awesome the gaming community is even outside of game.  Having people to share in this hobby and these passions Is something that isn’t quite quantifiable.  While some of these games can have a toxic nature inside of the community, most of the community for Dusty is and has been very good.  Ryan feels like the community inside of these games is important even beyond face value.  Having people to work towards common goals, overcome hurdles, and share in the excitement of feeling the reward of hard work is irreplaceable.  Pugging certainly makes the game playable but having friends and people you play with on a regular basis makes these games so much more enjoyable.  Ryan talks about how he resisted Blizzcon for so long because of the fear that it would be “too nerdy”.  Much to his dismay he couldn’t have been more wrong.  Blizzcon for Ryan was eye opening to say the least.  Being able to be around thousands of people who all have the same love and passion is something that can’t be described.  The Blizzard community is one of the best communities around.  The guys wrap up the community talk with a brief discussion how the community can change depending on which Blizzard game you are playing.  Dusty feels like Blizzard does a fantastic job encouraging and nurturing “community”.

News

Heroes 2.0 is here!  As Heroes 2.0 makes its reveal, players can look to see both new currency and loot boxes available to them as they launch 2.0 for the first time.  A new map, 73 new skins, a free mega hero bundle, 2 new heroes one of which is Genji, new load outs, emojis, a new progression system, new voice overs, an updated UI, a new Nexus challenge event, and much more are coming to the Nexus!

WoW:  Week 5 is here and still no Tomb drop date.  A few hotfixes and a few minor changes.

Overwatch:  The Overwatch teams tells us that we should see 3 new maps this year.  It is estimated that a person would need to open 5000 loot boxes and spend over 1700 dollars or 1500 hours of playing to get all the event items.  This math means that it would be pretty much impossible to get all the Uprising event items during the event.  What are your thoughts?  The guys give theirs.

Hearthstone:  The global games are going on and Dusty is liking watching the teams.

Help Wanted:

Lately Ryan and a few other guys have been working on producing another podcast show that is solely focused on the WoW raiding scene.  To go with the show Ryan and the guys have been putting together a discord community to compliment the class discords with more raiding centric resources.  Recruitment, strats, and role specifc tips to give a few examples.  This is where the help wanted comes in.  The discord needs people to act as authoritative figures to help run and moderate this community.  Being able to be knowledgeable of the current raiding scene from LFR on up to Mythic as well as being able to point people in the right direction of helpful resources are necessary qualities. If you are a raider and would both enjoy and be able to put focus and effort into helping run this community reach out to Ryan via the contact information below.

Blizzard Umbrella #12 : Quick Chat Coming at You!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the twelfth recording.  The guys have both been extremely busy and Ryan has had some computer struggles.  Due to all of this the guys decide to mix it up and just have a no topic in general quick chat about things going on in the game and how they feel about them.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’re Up to:

This past week Ryan got his flying!!  Due to some fluke mass attendance related issues Ryan’s guild was unable to push forward with mythic progression but managed to clear all the bosses they have downed so far.  Ryan has been seeing some success in the little bit of Overwatch competitive rank push and was unable to get in any Diablo play this past week.

Dusty managed to finish out his placement matches in Overwatch.  Dusty also managed to play through the new Omni crisis event in Overwatch and really enjoyed it.  Currently in WoW Dusty is finding it hard to find motivation to play the new content right now due to the lack of content and the difficulty of some content such as the challenge appearance.  He also is frustrated with the timing of invasions when they are up and not always being able to access them.  In Diablo Dusty managed to get a small bit of boosting his paragon levels done but not much else.  To round it out Dusty has been getting a ton of Hearthstone time in due to extreme fun he is having with the new expansion.

Quick Chat

The guys talk the new Overwatch event.  Ryan initially liked the even and the more he played it he found himself not enjoying it as much as he thought he would.  He feels like the Blizzard guys could have given the players more with the event.  Ryan feels like the comic was great but the playable content was lacking.  He questions whether it would have been better to have had to wait a little bit longer if it meant Blizzard would have given the players more.  For Ryan the story is the part that was lacking.  Dusty finds himself wanting a single player story play through more and more with every story tidbit they give the players.  Dusty talks briefly on the comment Jeff Kaplan made in regards to whether they would consider putting Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch.

News

WoW:  Still no Tomb release date and this week starts the weeks 4-11 lead up to Tomb so it will be interesting to see how long it does in fact take to get into Tomb of Sargeras.

HotS: Hanumura is coming Heroes as a map, you will be escorting a payload, and Genji is coming as the new Hero.  The release date for 2.0 is next week.  Also Ryan spaces out and forgets Dusty just talked about Genji coming to Heroes.  (Ryan here making fun of myself!)

Overwatch:  The Omni crisis event is live and playable.  It is Tracer’s first mission.  Don’t forget to check out the comic that comes with the event!

Hearthstone:  New decks are still popping up, there’s a new popular mage deck, and players are seeing a lot of Caverns of Time Rogue decks.

Blizzard Umbrella #11 : It’s catch up day!!  Lets talk 7.2, Journey to Un’Goro, and Heroes 2.0!!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the eleventh recording.  The guys had some issues that kept them away from the show last week but they are back and fear not they have topics to discuss!!  This week the guys talk about what has been going on in some of Blizzards new content.  They talk 7.2, Journey to Un’Goro, and Heroes 2.0.   You can find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  You can also find us on Twitter @BlizzUmbrella and e-mail us at BlizzardUmbrella@gmail.com.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about the show and what they have been up to.

What We’re Up to:

This past week Ryan’s guild pushed into Mythic NH and is now 2/10 Mythic.  Congrats to them!!  Ryan has been busy with school as the semester winds down.  He still has managed to find some time to keep working on his Overwatch rank and has been leveling a monk in Diablo with a friend for the new season.  Outside of a little game time in other games Ryan has mostly been working on WoW and the guild.

Dusty has been playing a wizard he has leveled up in Diablo this season.  The new lightning bolt build is proving to be quite interesting for him and gear is turning out to be tricky to obtain.  For Dusty 7.2 is giving him a feeling of lack luster.  Outside of those 2 games Dusty has been spending tons of time and some money on Hearthstone and the new expansion.  Dusty got all the cards he wanted and is really enjoying the new expansion.

Lets Catch up with 7.2, Journey to Un’Goro, and Heroes 2.0:

Jounrey to Un’Goro has currently proven to be a predicament for people who don’t have the ability or willingness to spend a bunch of money to get all the cards needed to adequately play the game.  The guys discuss whether or not Blizzard has tweaked some sliders behind the scene to lower the drop chance on good cards.  Ryan think it’s a very real possibility in light of Blizzard changing mob scaling in WoW unbeknownst to the player base.  Ryan also feels like Hearthstone is largely unplayable in its fullest for those who can’t or won’t spend the money to get all the cards.  Dusty feels like the card system needs some changing so people in this boat can access and play the game much easier without having to break the bank.  The guys discuss a possible new system that would allow for this scenario.

As the guys start talking 7.2 Ryan mentions that even though 7.2 is the biggest patch WoW has ever seen, the patch is missing a huge portion of what is to be expected.  Ryan feels like while this current pace of content release is good, the fact that with each week of 7.2 feeding the player just a little bit more, Blizzard could have waited until they could have released more with the patch so players wouldn’t feel like they have done all there is to do within a few hours of touching the new content.  For Ryan the raid can’t really come soon enough as well as the rest of the content leading up to Tomb of Sargeras.  Dusty feels like that while Blizzard may not necessarily need to give major tidbits of the 7.2 content every week,  little bits every so often like emissaries on the Broken Shore would go a long way.  The time gating for Dusty is making getting into this patch really hard.  As the guys close out the 7.2 talk, Ryan calls for action from Blizzard.  Blizzard needs to fix the invasions so that they are more accessible for everyone instead of just the people who can log on in the middle of the day!

Do you like the Overwatch loot boxes, well Dusty certainly does and is totally loving the new loot system the Heroes team has put in 2.0.  Dusty talks about the new leveling system and how it brings about a feel of you are always making progress.  You would think most people are all about the new skins, the new mounts, the new shiny toys, but for Dusty, it’s all about the EMOJIS!!  The new 2.0 system really has Ryan feeling like he’ll play more since the aesthetics will be more accessible without having to spend a ton of time playing.  There will be three currencies usable in the game and Dusty explains how they will all work and how you can use them.  Dusty talks quickly about the new hero Cassia and thinks she is going to be a lot of fun and has a good kit.  Dusty also mentions on the Heroes website now they have an unlock schedule you can access to see when stuff is coming out.

Overwatch is set to announce a secret big reveal for the game and the guys quick weigh in on what they think it is going to be.  Ryan originally thought it was going to be an e-sports announcement but with recent teasers, he thinks it’s going to be an immersive backstory of some sort.  Dusty thinks we are going to get new skins, a new loot box, and a new single player event.

Blizzard Umbrella #10 : It is patch day!!  What to expect in 7.2!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the tenth recording.  The show brings you a special episode this week that is all about the new World of Warcraft patch, 7.2 Tomb of Sargeras.  You can find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  You can also find us on Twitter @BlizzUmbrella and e-mail us at BlizzardUmbrella@gmail.com.  The website is up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com to find out about us and what we’ve been up to.  This week the show discusses 7.2 and all things to expect.  Why, because its patch day!

Website:

Ryan has worked very hard and very quickly to get the website up and running.  There has been a lot of caffeine involved and blood shot eyes but it has all been worth it and very fun.  Go check it out at www.theblizzardumbrella.com and give some feedback!

What We’re Up to:

This past week Ryan’s guild pushed out the progression raid to Sunday in an attempt to kill heroic Gul’dan, and kill Gul’dan they did.  Ryan was able to force a wowprogress update by requesting armory updates from 14 of his guild’s raid members and the guild now shows the kill credit.  On to mythic they go!!  Grats to them!  Other than WoW Ryan has been fighting an uphill battle in competitive Overwatch trying to break into gold.

Dusty has been doing the typical day to day in WoW in anticipation of 7.2.  Dusty also talks about how he really enjoys classes with an overabundance of mobility.  In Diablo, Dusty has been cleaning up his stash space so he has room when season 10 drops and can not wait for the new armory coming to the game.  The new season cosmetic rewards seem lackluster to Dusty and he also mentions he will be playing a Wizard and would love for people to join him.  He checks out Orissa in Overwatch and thinks she is tons of fun.  Other than gaming Dusty has been reading Chronicles Vol. 2 and absolutely loves it.

It’s patch day, it’s patch day, it is patch day!

7.2 is bringing a lot of changes and additions to the game.  This makes it hard to know where to start when you log in for the first time.  Ryan suggests upon logging in to start your artifact and order hall research, open the new artifact traits, and then jump over to the broken shore to start opening up the zone.  The new traits take the current 20 point trait and combine it into one which will be the first trait you want to get past the initial 35.  If you are past 35 artifact traits the AP you are refunded will be usable in the new traits whether it be the new ones or the additional available points in old ones.  54 traits gets you almost 5 additional traits from the refunded AP.  There will be 7 different quests to unlock these traits that are broken up amongst all the classes.  These quests will be necessary to unlock the new traits.  It will take some time to max out to level 40 artifact knowledge.  The new artifact appearances will require you to be level 110, have 35 traits, open the empowered traits, and have the Mage Tower up on the Broken Shore.  This will allow you to do one of many quests available for the classes to get their challenge appearances.  These challenges will not be easy.  Class mounts will require you to be exalted with the new reputation, Armies of the Legion Fall and complete the eleven week quest campaign.  Pathfinder part 2 to get flying will take at least two weeks that requires you to do all of the invasions on the Broken Shore that don’t open until the second week 7.2 is live.  The requirements for flying and the class mounts are different.  All loot drops for level 110 content have their base item level increased.  BOE craftable legendaries make their debut.  Gearing up now for alts should be drastically quicker.  Legendaries can now be worn at level 101.  In the immediate do the scenario quest on the Broken Shore, open your new traits, and start your research.  In the long term make sure to continue to get Armies of the Legion Fall reputation, work towards getting your Champions of the Legion Fall followers and work towards class mounts.  We don’t exactly know when Tomb of Sargeras will open up but Ryan feels like it will be around one month.  Ryan is really looking forward to the Tomb of Sargeras raid so his guild can reap the benefits of all their hard work to get into mythic raids and start the end of the Legion.  Dusty is really enjoying the rate of content release.

Blizzard Umbrella #9 : How much do you like a good story?! Does it drive gameplay?

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the sixth recording of the Dusty and Ryan duo.  You can find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  You can also find us on Twitter @BlizzUmbrella and e-mail us at BlizzardUmbrella@gmail.com.  The website is now up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com. This week the show discusses how important story is to the success and popularity of each of Blizzard’s games.

Website:

Ryan has worked very hard and very quickly to get the website up and running.  There has been a lot of caffeine involved and blood shot eyes but it has all been worth it and very fun.  Go check it out at www.theblizzardumbrella.com and give some feedback!

What We’re Up to:

This past week both Ryan and Dusty have been very busy.  Ryan spent most of the first half of last week working on the website and the show.  The second half of the week Ryan was off in Chicago enjoying some family and friends time.  What little game time he had he spent boosting his competitive Overwatch rank on the climb to Gold and beyond.  His guild managed to get Gul’Dan down to 8% and have his demise in their sight.  To top it all off Ryan jumped on Mass Effect Andromeda as it went live!

Dusty finds himself starting to get a little tired of doing world quests in WoW.  It’s not quite to the point where he wants to stop playing but he is finding himself not logging on every day while he waits for 7.2.  Dusty also tried out Probius on the PTR and enjoyed him quite a bit.  Not much Diablo this week but lots of Hearthstone in anticipation of the new expansion!  Other than that Dusty is picking up his copy of Mass Effect and can’t wait to play.

Blizzcon dates are announced for Nov 3rd and 4th and Ryan is going to try and get tickets to take the podcast along with him.

How much do you like a good story?! Does it drive gameplay:

Blizzard does a great job with creating a story.  All of its’ games are story driven and each of these stories are some of the best around.  Obviously. a story can make a game more fun or less enjoyable but how much do these stories drive the success of Blizzard’s games?  Dusty talks about how if it weren’t for the story, he probably wouldn’t play much World of Warcraft.  While this isn’t the case for Ryan it certainly does hold some validity.  When you look at this large spectrum of players who all play these games for their own reasons, this begs the question, if it weren’t for the story of each of these games how much would people play them.  Games like Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, and Starcraft all have the ability to circumvent story and jump right into multiplayer.  With this in mind, does the story of these games still provide motivation in some capacity for players to play.  Ryan feels like story absolutely drives gameplay.  Story causes players whether they get into it or not, to enjoy killing villains like Gul’Dan and Xavius.  It also is extremely motivating to play heroes who have been killed off like Varian when they are introduced into games like Heroes of the Storm.  Another driving force behind story motivated game play can be attested to Blizzard’s ability to create story outside of the games.  Dusty feels like some of the best out of game story has come out of Team 5 with their Hearthstone content.  Dusty talks about the Overwatch shorts and Ryan talks the WoW movie and memorabilia.  Story even makes Ryan want to play Starcraft when he doesn’t enjoy RTS games.  Does age change any of this for players?  Do the older players like story more, typically speaking? Is there enough nostalgia there for the older players to really register more with story?  Or, is age not a factor?  What do you guys think?

Blizzard Umbrella #8 : Care to roll the dice bones?! RNG week.

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the fifth recording of the Dusty and Ryan duo.  You can find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  You can also find us on Twitter @BlizzUmbrella and e-mail us at BlizzardUmbrella@gmail.com.  The website is now up and running and you can find it at www.theblizzardumbrella.com. This week the show discusses all the rng across Blizzard’s games and how it effects both the players and the game play.

Website:

Ryan has worked very hard and very quickly to get the website up and running.  There was a lot of caffeine involved and blood shot eyes in the end but it was all well worth it and very much enjoyed.  Go check it out at www.theblizzardumbrella.com and give some feedback!

What We’re Up to:

This past week Dusty has been very busy outside of gaming.  The little gaming he was able to get in was spent leveling and working on his Demon Hunter.  Who doesn’t love double jump and glide?  A few quick play games in Overwatch and some Zul’jin and Varian action for the master skins in Heroes of the Storm rounded out his Blizzard gaming. Other than that it was just some Zelda action on the Switch for Dusty.

Ryan’s guild this week killed heroic Elisande and is now working on Guldan who stands in their way to Mythic.  With only doing his emissaries and a few mythic plusses Ryan grabs two more legendaries, one for his priest and one for his monk.  Besides raiding Ryan has been working on getting his Overwatch rank up to gold and helping some buddies finish off their For Azeroth games in Heroes of the Storm.

Ryan and Dusty touch on the importance of communication in competitive game play and playing a proper team composition.

Rolling the Bones and all RNG across Blizzard Games:

Blizzard is notorious for relying heavily on RNG across their games.  It might be a way to monetize a game or to change up game play.  When it comes to World of Warcraft, RNG is all over the place.  You can find it with critical strike rating, titanforging, legendaries, or even class mechanics.  Class mechanics like Outlaw Rogue with their Roll the Bones.  Things like critical strike work well with the game.  When you take titanforging, legendaries, and class mechanics, RNG often doesn’t work well. Blizzard early on said Outlaw Rogues with their RNG wasn’t working well and they were going to look at changing that dps system.   Since then, they have reversed their stance and said that they like the design of the system and are going to leave it as is.  Titanforging and legendaries on top of the AP grind have caused for a lot of top end guilds and raiders to burn out and step away from end game hardcore raiding, or the game altogether.  All this because of RNG.  While this doesn’t always work in favor of the very small group of top end players when looking at the overall player base it does provide an easy stepping stone for the casual players.  That elicits the question, when does RNG become bad and when is it good?  Clearly the legendary system is broken and needs some serious adjustment, but how much adjustment?  Are they moving in the right direction with their changes to that system and are these changes coming a day late and a dollar short? On top of RNG inside of WoW you can find RNG in games like Hearthstone and Overwatch with their loot boxes and card packs.  Dusty mentions that it takes quite a bit of money to purchase enough boxes or card packs on average to obtain all the cosmetic or cards respectively.  Is this design a good one?  Could Blizzard not adopt more of a Heroes of the Storm system across their other games?  Remove the RNG and make each item cost more or less depending on rarity and just monetize more cosmetics?  All things considered, the guys agree that RNG shouldn’t make or break a game but should simply add some flavor to it.

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the fourth recording of the Dusty and Ryan duo.  You can find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  You can also find us on Twitter @BlizzUmbrella and e-mail us at BlizzardUmbrella@gmail.com.  This week the show discusses the PTR and whether we like it or not.

Oops:

Prior to this show there has been an oops.  You have all been told the wrong Twitter username to find the guys at.  The correct username if you want to find them is @BlizzUmbrella.  OOPS!

What We’re Up to:

This past week Ryan’s guild killed a few more bosses and is now 8/10 Heroic Nighthold.  Look out Gul’dan!  Ryan has been taking a break from all the WoWs outside of raiding to play a lot of Overwatch competitive play.  On top of that, Ryan has also been enjoying playing some Orissa on the Overwatch PTR.

Dusty has been pretty busy but has managed to get some gaming in.  This last week Dusty grabs the pet before the Diablo season ends.  In WoW Dusty finishes off pathfinder part 1 and the ending of the Suramar questline really catches Dusty’s eye. Pathfinder part 2 can’t come soon enough!  To top it all off, Dusty plays around with some funky deck combinations in hearthstone while waiting for Un’Goro to drop.

Outside of Blizzard games Dusty has been playing Zelda on his new Nintendo Switch.

To PTR or Not to PTR:

Outside of Hearthstone, all of Blizzard’s game have a PTR.  The PTR or Public Test Realm is an alternate version of each respective game that has future content on it.  Players can come try out this content and allow Blizzard to gain some feedback or find bugs prior to live launch.  When it comes to the, PTR Ryan and Dusty both agree that the PTR for WoW isn’t something that they want to utilize due to it potentially ruining the magic of each WoW encounter.  Games like Overwatch and HOTS are more gameplay oriented so the PTR isn’t such a big deal to Dusty and Ryan.  Hearthstone doesn’t use a PTR and the guys feel that it’s due to gameplay speed and simplicity.  Diablo and Starcraft both have a PTR and respectively they serve a particular purpose.  When it comes to WoW, the PVE scene at the top level is very competitive.  These guilds and players put in a lot of time and effort to try and be the World 1st.  In order to best prepare to achieve this objective they will spend a lot of time on the PTR putting together the strategies for their boss kills.  Does this ruin some of the prestigiousness of end game raiding?  This begs to question what is a good balance from a PTR perspective of what is enough for Blizzard to put on there for testing and what to hold back so as to keep things fresh and exciting?  In short, both Ryan and Dusty feel that the PTR is great for some games, not so great for other games, and pointless altogether for games like Hearthstone.

News

- In Overwatch, Orissa hits the PTR and already sees some nerfs, Ana and Bastion see some nerfs, Winston’s bubble CD gets changed, and Zarya sees a change to her bubble as well
- Probius makes the HOTS roster
- Hearthstone awaits the new expansion and new ladder changes go live
- WoW AP and Rep items gained prior to 7.2 are pointless to hold on to and the way the new artifact traits work is released
- The current Diablo season is ending soon, the new one is not far behind it, and when can you look to see the Necromancer

Closing

006: All the games to play!? Game Overload!

Intro:

This week Blizzard Umbrella is back for the third recording of the Dusty and Ryan duo.  You can now find the show on iTunes, Stitcher, and Google Play.  This week the show discusses the plethora of games Blizzard has available to the community.  What does this in terms of how players spend their time or the focus of Blizzard as they continue to develop these games?

What We’re Up to:

Ryan’s guild makes some heroic progress in Nighthold!  Much to his dismay Ryan also took the time to do the archaeology weekly for the moose mount.  On top of doing the his typical WoW thing Ryan also finished of the HotS Warcraft event, played some competitive Overwatch, and has been continuing to dust off his Hearthstone skills, can you say one shot?!

Dusty and Ryan played some HotS together which caused Dusty to realize how much he appreciates being able to play and communicate with people as he plays games instead of playing solo.

Dusty plays lots Zul’Jin and goes on a win streak.  On top of playing lots of Heroes dusty jumps into LFR and does the second wing of Nighthold for the first time.  Dusty also hits rank 10 in Hearthstone and looks forward to getting his chest!

Both Dusty and Ryan come from a different perspective when it comes to raiding and briefly discuss how they feel about Nighthold with that in mind.

LFR can be a cesspool!

A Diverse Game Selection:

Blizzard over the years has branched out to a point where they have game options in almost all of the big genres out there.  With multiple games of different types available both players and Blizzard are presented with a dilemma of where does their time and focus go.  Blizzard obviously has multiple development teams to cover their bases but the players only have so much time in a given week.  With that in mind, the questions stands, what does this mean from Blizzards end and from the players end?  Does Blizzard design games and events with the intent to get people to play all the games?  Do the players reach a point where there is so much to do that they start to miss out due to lack of adequate gaming time?  Does this dilemma cause these games to grow more towards a casual player scene or does the hardcore gamer not get neglected?  How many players still play non Blizzard games now?  Dusty and Ryan give their two cents.

Blizzard Umbrella #2 : Can you hear me?! Talk To Us Blizzard

Intro:

Blizzard Umbrella is back for its second episode of the newly rebooted podcast!
We are now live on iTunes and soon to be on both Google Play and Stitcher.
Our twitter account is now live, @BlizzardUmbrella.
You can also find us on reddit via the username BlizzardUmbrella!

What We’re Up to:

Taking a break from just playing WoW, Ryan has been getting back into some of the other games.  New to hearthstone?  Don’t worry, so is Ryan.  On top of trying not to be a noob at Hearthstone Ryan has been working on the Heroes of the Storm event for the WoW mount and placed Gold in competitive Overwatch.

Dusty and Ryan briefly discuss their love for Solider 76 and how Ryan was able to place higher in the ranks than someone who did better than he did.

Is the competitive placement process a good one?  Ryan and Dusty weigh in.

In game this week Dusty gets his first legendary on his mage alt and gets some gear on his hunter through LFR.  Did you say legendary, because Dusty’s frost mage did.  A pretty orange belt now sits on his mage’s waist!  Dusty can’t get enough of Lucio in HotS.

LFR drops set pieces again.  The talk ventures into the question of whether this good or not.

Blizzard Communication:

There has been lots of chatter lately about Blizzard’s communication to the players.  With supposed plans to get better at acknowledging the players’ questions and needs what does this mean?  Is Blizzards communication lacking?  Does it still need improvement or is it fine right where it is at?  That being said, is Blizzard well within their rights or their ethical obligation to the players, to keep them in the dark or waiting at times?

News

-Legendary drops have being seeing some love behind the scenes in World of Warcraft
-Lucio in HotS is seeing some good action
-Season 10 for Diablo is on the PTR and extra special legendary items are in the news

Blizzard Umbrella #1 : Battle Tokens!

Intro:

Dusty is joined by his new Co-Host, Ryan, as the show makes it return to the podcast and gaming community.

What We’re Up to:

Dusty has been playing lots of Hearthstone while dabbling in some WoW, Overwatch, and HotS, and Ryan has been concentrating on Nighthold progression with his raid team.  The talks swings to Nighthold raiding and its comparison to EN and Tov.  How are set bonuses right now and legendary items?  What classes are we playing currently and Dusty touches on how he likes to spend his time on Hearthstone.

Battle Tokens:

Dusty and Ryan discuss the implications of the new Battle.Net balance from Battle Tokens. Under the old system tokens only gave game time and gold but the new system offers so much more.  The $15 balance can be used in all of Blizzard’s games.  What does this mean for Blizzard, the players, and WoW’s in game economy?  Will this pull money out of an over saturated WoW economy?  Will players actually use these services and is the $5 Blizzard keeps a good or bad thing?  All of this discussed.

Blizzards Multi Genre Game Collection

Ryan briefly mentions and asks Dusty what his thoughts are on Blizzards ability to get players to play outside their wheel house.  A topic for another podcast?!

Nighthold and Suramar

Dusty and Ryan briefly discuss whether they like Suramar and how awesome Nighthold is.

7.2 Inc

Pathfinder part 2 is on its way and the quality of life is something to be desired!

News

-Hearthstones new expansion leaked!
-Lucio is coming to HotS

My week in Blizzard Games.

WoW - Doing my normal Garrison Dailies. Leveled up my skinning to 700 on my Hunter Main --- Trying to make a checklist now that Legion will be coming in a few months on what I want to have done by August 30th release date. Started a new undead Warlock for no reason at all... I don't even like the undead models at all. May delete the character soon. :)

Hearthstone - Been playing a Yogg Mage all week long plus a Divine shield Paladin that has been a ton of fun. The meta is beginning to take shape and it is a lot of  fun. Chakki took first place in the DH tournament in Austin.

HOTS - In heroes I have been playing a TON of Lt. Morales. She is basically an OP healer from what I can tell. I played 11 games with her and won 9. I really am enjoying heroes more now that I am going in and playing different types of characters. I have been trying to do my dailies every couple days and that keeps me motivated to play different heroes that I may not have tried before.

Diablo 3 - Continuing with my Seasonal Journey in Season 6. This has been a lot of fun this season playing a Wizard. I am in the process of finish my Firebirds set. I have all the pieces but a couple of them have really bad rolls. I'm trying to unlock that darn portrait this Season! That is my goal.

Starcraft - Trying to continue my way through the story line. And want to begin playing the new

Overwatch - Not to much Overwatch this week as I am trying to wait until release so all of my progress does not get wiped.

Blizzard Gaming News

Wow - Some transmog items have popped up all over for those who go to see the new Warcraft Movie. They all look pretty cool. A bunch of updates to the Legion Alpha, BUT all of that stuff is going to change anyways

There was a live stream with content creator Jesse Cox that revealed some interesting stuff about Legion and World Quests
  • Order Halls have less visual customization but you can customize the gameplay. Order Halls are iconic locations that have been around long before you--you wouldn't totally redecorate it. However, the Artifact Weapons have visual customization.
  • Order Hall fantasy - you are a champion but also part of a group of famous peers. Think King Author and Knights of the Round Table.
One time story Epic quest for each class. Gave some really cool examples.
Every day when you log in, there is an emissary that asks you to do specific sets of world quests to aid a faction
Talked about the leveling experience from 1 and how they know it is broken and they want to fix it.
They talked about other stuff as well BUT it's all online linked somewhere for you to find easily.

Hearthstone - The biggest news in the hearthstone world was that Chakki won the DH Austin tournament this weekend with some really cool decks. He had a nazoth Paladin deck that was awesome!

Heroes of the Storm - This week 2 new heroes were revealed. Chromie and Medivh. Both are assassins. and Chromie is the first Gnome to enter the game! How exciting is that! There are going to be some major Heroe reworks in the near future for Arthas and Anubarak as well as Falstad.
They also talked about the upcoming Ranked Mode Revamp. So they introduced Grandmaster Leagues, Seasons, and Rewards. This will begin around a month from now. There are multiple tiers now with rewards each season. Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and the best will be called diamond. With each win or loss you may either be promoted to the next highest tier or demoted to a tier below the one you are in now. Also, I love this because I am all about more STUFF like the rewards such as the Wolf that they have teased in the forum post as well as new portraits.

Overwatch - The only news in overwatch is that the Beta is over and they gave us an extra day so that was fun. As I said earlier I am patiently waiting the release date on the 24th of May.
